Welcome to the new and improved Google Ads Advisor for domains!

This tool quickly gives advice on what ads you should buy, or possibly negative match out.

Simply enter your domain into the search box and get usable keyword suggestions back in an instant.

It is an enormous time saver, so let’s give you a tour.

*Intro*

Start by simply typing a domain into the search box.

Unlike most of our other tools, Ads Advisor is built so that you put in your own domain. It’ll give you advice based on your competition. This works best if you already actively advertise on Google.

Since the results are going to be recommendations for Google ads, be sure to use a domain that has actively advertised on Google.

If you don’t actively have a large ads campaign you can still use the Keyword version of Google Ads advisor located in the keyword dropdown.

There’s a separate video for that one, so let’s keep rolling.

Straight away we’re going to tell you what keywords we think would be good for your domain to advertise on, how do we determine that? Let’s start with your Competitors.

Competitors:

Primarily we measure our recommendations by comparing what keywords your biggest PPC competitors are consistently buying, and you are not.

SpyFu starts with your closest competitors, the ones that buy many of the same keywords that you do.

These are automatically entered by default, but you can change them out by clicking on the Competitors button here at the top.

Same as before, make sure these competitors are actually advertising in Google. Frequently, the more active they are, the better the results you will get back.

You also have the option to enter in a list of keywords instead! This will generate a new set of competitors that are in the advertising universe of those keywords. This will then return results according to those competitors.

Once you have the competitors that you’d like, click Apply!

Results & Metrics

Let’s take a closer look at the results. Here’s the keyword we think your domain should advertise on.

And here we can see how many of those 5 competitors are advertising on it. If the bubble is filled in, it means they are, if it’s blank, then they’re not!

Again, this contributes to what keywords we think are best for you, giving you an upfront statement of how good SpyFu thinks this could be, accompanied by a strength meter.

This is on a scale from Great Buy, Good Buy, Buy, and Consider!

Next to that we’ll give you corresponding metrics like:

  • How many impressions this keyword gets a month

  • The estimated cost per click of that keyword (for exact match searches)

  • We combine those two metrics to bring you how much that keyword should cost per month if you were to buy it in Google ads

  • And finally the potential amount of clicks you could be getting per month from those ads.

This gives you more granular insight, so you can decide if this “Good Buy” is actually worth the risk and reward for your specific domain. Basically what keywords will actually make you money off if you run ads on them.

But there’s a lesser known feature of SpyFu’s Google Ads Advisor meant to save you money!

Negative Match

If you click on the Buy Recommendations dropdown you’ll see an option for Negative Match. Let’s give that a click.

Negative Match will show you keywords that you are buying, but your competitors are not. Sometimes these are branded keywords, talking about your company name or its products.

But sometimes, they are weird keywords that you are accidentally broad matching on. Or that someone added to your campaign years ago and completely forgot about.

Funny enough, Google Ads doesn’t always tell you about these keywords, because the longer you have them active, the more money Google can make off of you.

That’s why Negative matching keywords in your Google Ads is an incredibly important step in maintaining a profitable campaign. It will help you stop wasting your money on keywords that only drain your ad budget.

Regardless of if you are looking at Negative Match or Buy Recommendations you can narrow your advertising focus with filtering

Filters

Click the filter button to choose which keywords you’d like to include or exclude from your result list. This helps you zoom in to the correct keywords for your current campaign.

You can add multiple keywords to your filter list until you find your best results.

When you have the keyword list that best fits your current campaign, it’s a good time to export.

Add & Export

You can choose keywords manually by clicking on the checkbox to the left of the keywords. Or you can speed this up by clicking on the big checkbox here on the upper left.

Use the dropdown if you’d like to further specify what keyword recommendations you want to export.

After choosing your keywords you can export the list to a CSV, Google Sheets, PDF, or simply copy it to a clipboard so you can easily drop the keywords into your Google Ads editor, or to a growing list to edit for use in Google Ads.

You can also add them to a MySpyFu project. Make sure you have the right project open here on the right, and then simply click Add Keywords.

You can then open up and see the keywords added to your project. SpyFu will automatically start tracking their performance and trends. It’s a simple feature that will save you a ton of time.
