Improve your pagerank by learning more about how SpyFu‘s URL Overview page works.

When learning about SpyFu, a lot of people are surprised that we allow you to dig into individual URLs, it’s a very powerful technique to pinpoint what pages you can improve.  This includes social sites, like a company’s Facebook or Twitter profile.

Video Transcript:

This video is going to explain the URL overview page.

You get to the URL Overview by typing a URL or sub-domain into the search box.

All of the data here is for this specific URL, and the content that branches from it.

you can also type in a subdomain, or a path — any part of a url — right down to the page itself.

So, you can see all the keywords that a domain’s blog ranks on, or you can zoom in on any individual article.

The top sections will provide basic information about this URL to give you a jumping off point for your research.  You have the option to click through any of these preview sections to get even more data.

Including their organic keywords, the amount of clicks SpyFu estimates this domain gets every month, and how valuable we estimate those clicks to be if you paid for them in adwords.

Quick note: If you’re ever confused what these terms mean, you can click on the little question mark in the corner, and it will give you a clear explanation.  These tooltips are all over the site, to help you understand different terms without having to leave the page.

The center graph will allow you to see the percentage of clicks this URL is gaining from SEO vs. PPC.

Even if a domain a decent amount of money in adwords don’t be concerned if the percentage is heavily weighted towards SEO on URLs.  Unless it’s a specific landing page that the domain really wants to push people to, URLs and subdomains usually have a lot higher percentage of traffic through organic traffic, even if the top level domain is more balanced for both.

Here are the PPC Keywords that are driving traffic to this URL and how many monthly clicks SpyFu estimates they get.  We look these metrics along with click through curve to make an estimate on how much this domain is spending in adwords for this URL.

You can export all of this information to a PDF, and if you’re a professional member you can even remove the SpyFu branding from the report.

For some URLs we also include a section that shows you how this page is performing in the social sphere.  If it’s getting liked or pinned.  If it doesn’t have any social visibility we remove the section all together so you have quicker access to the preview sections below!

These include top keywords for both SEO and PPC.  Again, if you want to see a full list, just click on the ‘view all’ buttons, and we’ll take you there.

Matching pages finds the pages that extend from this URL, guiding you from a navigational page to the specific pieces of content it’s funneling its users to. This level of granularity allows you to view this domain’s navigation and its content, from a top level, mid level, or zoom in to the product page itself and see how it’s performing.

This is extra powerful if you’re trying to emulate your top competitors content.  You can simply look at each of their URLs and build multiple pieces of content based on what they’ve already done.

Keep in mind URLs also include social URLs like Facebook and YouTube.  If you want to see the impact a domain’s social page has on google’s SERP.

Use the URL Overview to dig into a domain’s inner workings.  Gain keyword and content inspiration from these details and better expand your own domain’s presence online.

As always, thank you for watching.
